Bronco Billy Daniels and family, plus one, arrive in Perth after a five hour
flight. They rent a car and then go to
the three biggest banks where Billy makes substantial deposits in “Letters of
Credit,” Cashier’s Checks and Certified Bank drafts from several US banks and
brokerages.
“You will have access to your money in 48 hours, sir.” He
hears in all three banks. No problem,
Billy is carrying a lot of cash. From
the last bank they go to a large real estate office looking for a rental in the
hills.
“I can only rent this home to you for three months as the owner
is in United States
until then and will return,” says the agent.
Billy is tempted to say, “Wanna bet?”
But, he does not and asks to see it. They caravan to the location with the lady
agent leading the way. The home is on a
hill and has everything, pool, formal garden, all lush and green.
Nearly half a planet away the huge C5A lands in Antarctica in a moment of clear sky and air. The temperature is a balmy 20 below and the
sun hangs low in the sky.
“Oh my God!” says Charlotte. Filly leans over to her and says:
“My dear, this will keep us alive.”
“I know, I’m sorry,” she says, “Ladies have the right to
complain.”
Dr. Fogsten continued walking with her without saying a
word. He knew that she knew that he knew what they should do and she would do
it.
They found the living quarters compact but
comfortable. While there were only small
viewing portals like on a ship the views were incredible and it was nice to get
away from being in Antarctica just by backing
away from a portal.
“You know what’s crazy about this?” he said to her when
they were settled and had made a comment about being “on the bottom of the
world.” “We’re actually on the front end
of Earth.”
“What do you mean?”
“We know the Big Bang happened in the direction of the
North Star and that we’re flying into space along our axis, straight down if
the north pole is the top.”
“Oh my goodness!” she exclaims as she curls into a ball on
the couch while moving close to him.
“Now I know why I married a scientist,’ and she virtually purrs. Filly puts his arm around her thinking, “It’s
going to be OK.
