You had no idea how she would take it, but your wife appears to be perfectly calm!  You are amazed and embrace her.  Then she breaks down sobbing, “Oh the children!”

“Thank God they’re at school.”

“What’ll we do?” she asks.

“I think we should pack up for a vacation and head north, get into Canada and get as far north and as high as we can by the 13^th.”

“When will we tell them?’

“The last possible moment.”

“What will we tell them now?”

“As little as possible.”

“Maybe when we cross into Canada?”

“OK,” you agree.
